NC can't afford to annoy Modi
9/23/2011 12:50:37 AM

RAJOURI, Sept 22: For the past some days Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah and leader of the opposition in the state Mehbooba Mufti have been accusing each other for their secret ties with Gujarat Chief Minister Narinder Modi.
As per the statements issued from both the sides, it appears that both of them will never have even a shake hand with the party (BJP) Narender Modi belongs to. The war of words between the two leaders started after local press carried a statement of BJP senior leader Sushma Swaraj in which she said that People's Democratic Party leader of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti had praised Gujarat Chief Minister Narinder Modi while speaking at a function.
Soon after this revelation appeared in press, Mehbooba Mufti described this statement as baseless and cooked by BJP leader for her party's personal gains . However, Omar Abdullah said in his tweet that the statement was on record and had been heard many in the function Mehbooba spoke.
Omar also feels that Modi cannot be ignored in the Indian politics. Every body knows, when Gujarat happened, Omar Abdullah was a junior minister in BJP led government in the centre. One wonders how he dared to target Mehbooba Mufti for her only fault of just praising Modi that too in an indoor function. I think none of the Kashmiri politician can afford to speak against Modi keeping in view his present stature.
And every body knows the Kashmiri leaders have always played a double politics due to which the Kashmiris are still directionless. All Kashmiri leaders speak against those at Lal Chowk Srinagar with whom they dine at Delhi. It is unfortunate that the Kashmiri politicians instead of focusing on their internal issues of the state and caring about problems being faced by people they spent most of time exposing each other. None of these leaders have courage to even speak a single word.
If looked analytically, Omar Abdullah is about to complete his three years in office but there is nothing to give him credit at least at the front of performance except his emotional speech he had made in 2010 assembly session at Srinagar when he was almost sidelined in the state. Omar is playing another politics in the name of parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru.
Omar Abdullah has sensed emotive value of the issue and that is why he is now playing another game as part of his politics. Political analysts say that if Omar Abdullah would have been so serious and sincere in Guru case he would have threatened to quit in case Guru is hanged but he has just played a politics with an understanding with some strategists at Delhi to support a clemency resolution in the assembly and get back in Kashmir masses where he is loosing his grip with each passing day.
