PDP Legislature party discusses strategy, issues for coming session | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sept. 23:People Democratic Party’s legislature party met here today under the chairmanship of party president and leader of the legislature party Mehbooba Mufti and was attended by party patron Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, senior leaders Muzaffar Hussain Beig, Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari and other legislators. The party discussed in detail the issues it would take up in the forth coming session of legislators starting from September 26. Later briefing news persons, Mehbooba Mufti listed the issues which the party has prioritized for projection. She said the session was scheduled for a brief seven working days which was inadequate in view of the large number of problems and issues faced by the people. Mehbooba said the development in the state had come to a stand still under the present government, all the major initiatives taken by the previous government like Prime Minister’s reconstruction plan and Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded schemes had been running late and some of them have been abandoned all together. She said Srinagar city had suffered the most under the present government as funds to the tune of Rs 48 crores were diverted which was meant for construction of roads here. Similarly the beautification of Jehlum has been stopped and improvement of Eidgah abandoned. She said as a result of the incompetence of state government the 3rd phase of ADB funds had been shelved. The PDP president said that it was unfortunate that no action had been taken even in a single case of 120 killings last summer. She said some of the cases were well documented and the Chief Minister had promised action in 24 hours in cases like the killing of three youth in Anantnag and even one youth in Sopore recently but nothing has happened during the last one year. She said the party would also focus on the very serious revelations about thousands of unmarked graves in different areas of the state. She said that the party would press the government for action on the four directions issued by SHRC on the subject. Mehbooba said empowerment of Panchayats was reduced to repeating the same announcement after every fortnight.
