Deplorable condition of Dhar road may prove fatal

UDHAMPUR, Sep 23:
The presence of large potholes on the Dhar road connecting Udhampur to Pathankot in Punjab is likely to cause fatal motor accidents apart from disrupting vehicular traffic along this highway.
A large number of potholes measuring about 5 feet in diameter and one foot in depth can be found on this highway. Although heavy vehicles pass through these potholes easily, the medium and light vehicles are unable to get through such big potholes easily. The road being maintained by BEACON but from years no premixing or metalling has been done on the damaged part of road due to which it is causing threat for daily commuters and heavy vehicles who mainly used this route to reach Punjab
Speaking to Early Times, Advocate Susheel Sharma showing deep concern over the deplorable condition of the road demanded the improvement of Dhar road which serves as the lifeline for the people living along highway from Udhampur to Pathankot.
He alleged that despite repeated requests the beacon failed to take up the works in time.
He added that the condition of the road has only worsened during the monsoon season, further.
He further demanded the state government to improve the condition of the highway in view of its great importance in the context of the state.
Raj Kumar, lecturer at Majalta school stated that the people living along the highway are facing lots of problems due to the deplorable condition of the road. The concerned authority has totally neglected the development of this highway, he added. He added that the school going children and other pedestrians are having a hard time plying on this road.
Raghubir a Punjab based truck driver travelling on this highway stated that the condition of the highway from Udhampur to Manwal has worsened severely during the monsoon and as a result they even face physical strains trying to control their vehicles.
The locals and drivers also expressed apprehension of causing disruption to the vehicular traffic along this highway if the concerned authority does not take steps to repair the deplorable road. Local residents said that it is high time for the concerned authorities to repair the deplorable road before any untoward incidents happen which could be fatal with the present situation of the highway.
