| J&K first State to launch ‘My Stamp’ concept | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 23:Jammu and Kashmir will become the first State to formally launch the “My Stamp” concept on September 26 at a four-day-long Philatelic Exhibition. The Department of Posts is coming up with some novel ideas to re-establish connection with the people, which has suffered during the 21 years of turmoil. Chief Post Master General, J&K Circle, John Samuel said the concept was unveiled in Delhi last year but “we will be the first State to do it in practical terms. It is a novel method to emotionally connect with people, as the customer's picture will appear on the stamp he chooses to buy.” The exhibition will be inaugurated by Governor NN Vohra. Army Chief General V.K. Singh will participate. “We are setting up seven cameras and customers will pick up the stamps and by evening they will get them along with their pictures,” he said. The concept, Mr. Samuel, had been working well in Singapore, United Kingdom and other countries. The department will also release special covers highlighting tourism in Kashmir. “In total, 14 covers will be released including, on Hangul (Stag), Mughal Gardens, Chinar and other cultural aspects.” The exhibition will feature one lakh postal stamps from across the world. “This will be the highest number of stamps put on exhibition so far. The stamps and covers also carry description and importance of what features on them,” Mr. Samuel said. He said similar programmes would be organised in Jammu, Udhampur, Rajouri, Anantnag and Baramulla in the next two months as “we want to strengthen this People's Connect Programme.
