Srinagar hosts DIT-NASSCOM State Consultation Workshop | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sept 24:The State Consultation Workshop organized by Department of Information Technology, Government of India in association with Department of Information Technology, Government of J&K and NASSCOM was held in Srinagar today. Part of a 50 city series of e-Governance Consultation Workshops planned by DIT in all states and Union Territories during July 2011 to July 2012, this was the 6th workshop on theme of "Citizen Centric e-Government". Giving the keynote address Madhav Lal, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of J&K noted that the Department Secretaries and Head of Departments of the state need to actively participate in improvement of public service delivery and use IT as a tool to achieve this goal. He emphasized on making IT framework available and take up the challenge to implement the National e-governance Plan. He also asked the senior officers of the departments at state, divisional and district level to lead all such initiatives in their domains. The Chief Secretary further stated that while the state of J&K has taken up lot of initiatives towards good governance like Public Service Delivery Act and several automation projects still there is need for serious introspection and prioritization. “Every department should identify their strengths and weakness; they need to identify best practices which can be implemented straight away to accelerate the process. The biggest challenge is whether our departments have the capability and resolve to improve the system and make it compatible. If all departments are not looking at areas where serviced can be improved then they are not providing any service at all,” he stated. He also noted the importance of the private sector and urged that the government should give enough room for private players in any big initiative that is taken up.
