EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sep 24:-The Government of India has decided to provide adequate financial assistance to Jammu and Kashmir Government for upgrading the facilities for the tourists and for developing new tourist circuits.
This was being done to help the state to make up for the losses it suffered in the tourism sector because of militancy related violence in the state during the last 21 year.
Official sources said that the Centre has sanctioned nearly Rs 350 crore for development of 35 projects including a mega circuit and laser show in Srinagar's Dal Lake as part of its financial assistance to promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The Centre has committed development of 35 more tourism projects of Rs.180 crore to the State. Under these projects, besides development of new tourism spots, up-gradation of infrastructure at existing tourist places would get priority,” according to senior functionaries of the Department of Tourism.
They said that the Union Tourism Ministry has also approved mega tourist circuits for Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh, each costing Rs.50 crore for promotion of pilgrim tourism. A laser show in Dal Lake would be organised for which Rs.12 crore have been approved by the Centre.
A water centre is also being developed at Mansabal Lake in Ganderbal district, and from the next year no motorboat would be allowed in Dal Lake.
Adventure tourism is receiving focused attention of the Government, they said, adding that after completion of the second phase of Kangdori-Marrishoulder chair lift in the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir , an international skiing event would be organised there.
Union Tourism Ministry has also given the go-ahead to introduce water skiing and para sailing courses at the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) here, as part of its efforts to revive the institute in Jammu and Kashmir.
