| Inter-college chess tournament of JU | | GCW Parade faces GGM in women’s final tomorrow | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 24: Defending champion, Government College for Women Parade shall be playing against the opponent they defeated last year, the GGM Science College, in the women’s final of the ongoing inter-college chess tournament, organised GGM Science College under the banner of Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU), here on September 26.
Earlier, in the semi-finals, played today, GCW Parade outplayed GCW Udhampur 3-2. The Results: Gurpeet Kour lost to Isha Sharma; Sanmeet Kour lost to Yesha Nandy; Malika Mishra bt Palvi Kumari; Nitika Gandotra bt Rajvinder Kour and in best of best decider, Malika Mishra bt Yesha Nandy.
Later, in the second semi-final, GGM Science College outplayed GCW Gandhi Nagar 3-2 to set the stage for an interesting final. The Results: Usha Birdi bt Priya Pandita; Manisha Sharma bt Parul Mahajan; Karanjeet Kour lost to Smriti Nathyal; Bandaba Rajput lost to Shikha Sharma and in best of best decider, Usha Birdir defeated Shikha Sharma.
Same 4 teams reach men’s semis
Meanwhile, same four teams that played in the semi-finals last year today made it to the semifinals of the men’s chess event winning their respective quarterfinals today.
Now, in the semi-finals, to be played on Monday, title holders, Government Degree College Udhampur shall take on host GGM Science College while Government Degree College Kathua shall face last year’s runners-up, Government SPMR College of Commerce.

GDC Udhampur bt GDC Bhaderwah 4-0: Kanav Sharma bt Sachin Singh; Ishan Singh bt Ravi Kant; Sunil Kumar bt Ch. Vikar Ahmed; Munish Sharma bt Sheikh Rizwan Ahmed. GGM Science College bt GCET 4-0: Zaheena Mustafa bt Tarun Bali; Sunny Sharma bt Parnav Gupta; Samandeep Singh bt Saurabh Charak; Ranjeet Singh bt Shivakar Sharma.
