| Conference of ENT surgeons concludes | | |  EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sep 24:
Two day conference of ENT surgeons titled "XXXVth (35th) NWZ AOI CON - 2011" organised by the Department of ENT, SMGS Hospital, Government Medical College, Jammu concluded today.
The conference was attended by eminent faculty from outside the state. "Hands on Laser training" was also imparted to the students during the conference. Co2 laser surgery was performed on three patients, by eminent surgeons namely Dr. KK. Handa (Medanta Medicity),), Dr Arun Geol (GTB Delhi) and Dr Shamit Chopra (Jullundar). Head and neck cancer surgery was performed upon 22 years old patient by Dr. Suresh Sharma, Prof & Head Department of ENT, AlIMS New Delhi and Dr Ashok Gupta did Functional Endoscope Sinus Surgery (FESS), upon three patients.
All the surgeries were performed in the Operation Theatre of Govt. Medical College Hospital. Jammu which was telecast live in the Auditorium of Govt. Medical College where it was witnessed by about 300 delegates presented in the Auditorium.
Besides this, the Scientific programme comprising of panel discussion and guest lectures were conducted on various ENT diseases, wherein Dr. Santosh Kacker, Ex-Director. AIIMS was awarded S.P. Sharma Memorial Oration for outstanding contribution in the field of deafness.
Quiz programme was conducted by Dr J C Passey, Prof Deptt. of ENT, MAMC Delhi, where eight teams of students from various Medical Colleges of North West Zone participated in the quiz, wherein students of IGMC, Shimla stood first, GMC Patiala second and GMC Jammu bagged third position. The winners were awarded cash award of Rs. 3000, Rs. 2000 and Rs. 1000 respectively besides merit certificates by the Organizing Chairman, Dr. Aniece Chwodhary, Prof. & Head, Department of ENT, GMC, Jammu.
