| Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has achieved another distinction | | | KATRA, DEC 6 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has achieved yet another distinction of being the first varsity in Jammu and Kashmir by introducing a post-graduate programme, M-Tech Energy Management, as part time course for career advancement of employed and others. Dr Kumar said the university is accredited with AIEEE and has adopted IIT pattern to achieve academic excellence. The mission of the University is to conduct world-class research that addresses critical needs of society and fosters the technological, economic and social developments of the nation, he added. In its main campus, the University has started post graduate courses in Business Administration, Economics, Energy Management, Business Economics, Science in Mathematics besides Bachelor of Technology Degrees in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication, Biotechnology, Mechanical Engineering and Architecture. In addition, Ph D course are also being offered by the university. The University has taken off on an encouraging note with 100 per cent placement for its first batch of MBA scholars. The multi-national companies have offered them an annual package ranging between Rs 2.5 and Rs 3.5 lakhs. Although admission of students to the university on the basis of All India admission test, the first batch of these students have all been from within the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Pursuing the path of excellence, the University has set high standards for itself in respect of appointing faculty and making admissions. To enable candidates from Jammu and Kashmir to compete at AIEEE level, the University is planning to start coaching classes for desirious students, Prof Bansal said. The students are for various institutions after counseling by the AIEEE CCB (Central counseling Board). If after the complete AIEEE procedure some seats are still vacant, then the University fills up these seats by calling applications separately. 'We want this university to emerge as a temple of world-class learning', he states. Proximity of the campus to the spiritually and culturally rich pilgrimage centre of Mata Vaishno Devi reflects in every part of the aesthetically designed campus. The buildings like Academic Block, Administrative Block, Central Library, Hostels, Faculty Apartments and Duplexe residences have been designed with extensive use of pyramidal roofs that emulate the surrounding peaks and blend harmoniously with the local ambiance. The various schools of study consist of well equipped, centrally air cooled lecture and seminar halls, conference rooms, departmental lab and computer lab and all modern facilities. Both the Girl's Hostel and the Boy's Hostel comprise single and shared rooms with good quality infrastructural facilities. As part of its social responsibility, the campus has a DPS school for children of faculty and staff besides perepherial villages. 80 per cent students come from the peripherial villages. |
