Congress 'snubs' PDP on 'politicising' Guru resolution | Why 'no word advice' for alliance partner NC…..? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 24: Even though ruling Congress in J&K has kept close to its chest the strategy it would follow on the resolution on clemency for Afzal Guru, the party at the national level today came out with a strong reaction , almost snubbing the opposition PDP on the strategy later declared on this issue in the Assembly on September 28, when the motion has been scheduled for discussion. It was no less than the spokesperson of the Congress at national level Mansih Tiwari who hit back at what he termed as PDP playing it up for political gains. Though in the hierarchy of spokespersons Manish is considered to be junior but at the same time entrusted with a responsibility where he says the things which form a part of the policy of the party on any issue. Now this being most sensitive and serious issue, Tiwar's utterances today cannot be merely treated as hitting out at PDP or its president Mehbooba Mufti. In the statement Manish has literally cautioned PDP against politcising the 'emotive' issues like this one in a place like Kashmir . Not only this he has disapproved Mehbooba's statement to press after the party held its Legislative Party meeting in Srinagar on Friday, September 23 that her party would support the resolution in state Assembly. Though Congress leader has hit out at PDP with the contention that capital punishment issue is extremely sensitive issue on which all parties need to 'tread cautiously …' , but it goes without saying that Congress has indicated what stand it is going to adopt over this issue. Though Congress through this reaction has tried to give a 'dose' of advise that parties need not give such statements and do politics on something on which there are emotions of masses and the political opinion is divided and polarised, yet there is a clear message and writing on the wall by Congress on its own stand. However, one only wonders why such advice Congress could not give to its alliance partner NC which is the first party to have played it up only and only to ensure its political gains. It is fresh on memory of all what Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on day one , when the reslotion on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gnadhi's murderer's was passed in TN Assembly. Even though the ruling NC as a matter of well framed and compulsive strategy is silent and not making much clamour in comparison to rival PDP over this issue, but is too known a fact that NC joins the chorus and shares same policy as PDP is going to adopt, notwithanding the fact it is ruling party of the state. On the other hand local leadership of the Congress still remains reticent and there is apparently no whimper , at least in political corridors what it has decided or is likely to do on September 28. |
