58th ‘tree-talk’ held in Bijbehara | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sept 25: 58th series of popular environemtn programme ‘tree-talk’ was held in Bijbehara town of south Kashmir on Sunday. Initiating ‘tree-talk’ senior forest official O P Sharma said that Bijbihara was popularly known as Town of Chinars. “Here Mughals imported Chinars from Iran to provide a majestic look to the town. Bijbihara is surrounded by plateaus, one of which is named as the Totak Shah. The Mughal Prince Dara Shikoh constructed a bridge over the Jhelum river near the Mughal Garden,” he said. The oldest Chinar measuring 70 feet at the base is located here in the Padshahi Bagh. Dara Shikoh garden spread over 224 canals is larger than Padshahi garden and is separated by river Jhelum. Prominent tree talk speakers who shared their views and eco concerns were DFO Lidder M S Keenu, Wildlife Warden Intesar Sohail, Advocate Ghulam Nabi, Tahir, Botanist Shogufta, Mushtaq Ahmad Secretary J&K Students Welfare Society, Shabir Ahmad Shabir, Coordinator Mushtaq Ahmad Tak, Dr Sajjad, Principal Govt HSS Bijbihara, school teachers, Ali Mohd Bhat, Bilquis Akhtar, Ulfat Jan, Ghulam Nabi Atish and students Majid, Riyaz and local residents.
