Berger XI, MSCC win ties in Saleem Memorial T20

JAMMU, Sept 25: Berger XI and Miran Sahib Cricket Club won their respective matches on the opening day of the Ist Saleem Khan Memorial Twenty20 Cricket Tournament which started at Government High School, Satwari Cantonment, here today.
In the first match of the day, Berger XI defeated Abrar Cricket Club by two wickets to enter the second round of quarterfinals. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Abrar Club made 155 runs for the loss of eight wickets.
Tanu and Mini were main contributors with 29 and 21 runs respectively while Kanu added 18 runs to the total. From Berger XI, Neeraj, Manjit and Arjun shared two wickets each.
In reply, Berger XI attained the goal making 156 runs in 19.4 overs with two wickets in hand. Manjit Singh and Ashwani remained top scorers with 37 and 34 runs respectively. Bunty, Nita, Mini and Mohit shared one wicket each from Abrar Club.
For his match winning innings of 37 runs and two wickets, Manjeet was adjudged man of the match.
In the second match, Miran Sahib Cricket Club (MSCC) registered a 13-run win over Rudra Cricket Club. Batting first, MSCC set a target of 166 runs losing eight wickets. Shanku was top scorer with 51 runs, followed by Jyoti (23) and Jagan (19) on the scoreboard. Romy and Parveen clinched three wickets each from Rudra Club while Surinder took one.
Batting second, Rudra Club bowled out for 152 runs in 19.2 overs. Ricky and Vishal were main scorers with 27 and 20 runs respectively. Ashwani added 19 runs. From MSCC, Sachin took two wickets while Shanku and Jimmy shared apiece each.
For his all-round performance, Shanku was declared man of the match.
Meanwhile, according to the member organizing committee, Parshotam Sharma, the next matches shall be played on September 27 at 2 pm.
