Prof Sharma reviews progress under HM

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 25-Chairman, Agriculture Management Centre, India Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmadabad, Prof Vijay Paul Sharma reviewed the progress under Technology Mission/Horticulture Mission (HM) in Jammu division at a meeting with Chief Horticulture Officers of all districts of the division, here today.
Director Horticulture, Jammu, Mr J L Sharma and Joint Director Horticulture, Jammu, Mr J N Sharma, were also present in the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the progress registered under Technology Mission/Horticulture Mission since its inception on 2003-04 to 2010-11.
Prof Sharma, while interacting with the officers, disclosed that he want to get the feedback from the district heads that what problems they face in the implementation of the programme in the field and how this programme can be made more beneficial, farmer friendly and result oriented so that the farming community get the maximum benefited. The visiting dignitary shared his experiences with respect to implementation of Horticulture Mission in other state.
Director, Horticulture Jammu briefed the visiting dignitary about the progress made under various components of Technology Mission/Horticulture Mission in Jammu division and also the problems faced by the departmental officers as well as farmers on the ground, particularly in hilly areas. The participating officers also shared their experience and bottlenecks in implementing the programme and suggested incorporating some modifications in operational guidelines of the scheme .
The visiting officer, accompanied by Director Horticulture also inspected some orchards established under Horticulture Mission in compact area of 10.00 Ha involving 10 beneficiaries in block Akhnoor at Nai Basti.
Besides, a mini tube well constructed during 2009-10 and drip and sprinkler irrigation installed during 2010-11in orchard areas were also inspected. The officer interacted with the beneficiaries and was impressed by the achievements made under the scheme.
