| Horticulture conference held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 25-The Department of Horticulture Udhampur organized one day Horticulture conference at Jakhani near Udhampur under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna.
MLA, Udhampur, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia was the chief guest, while Director Horticulture, Jammu Mr. Jia Lal Sharma, presided over the function.
Chairman Agriculture Management Centre Indian Institute of Management Ahmadabad, officers Mr. Vijay Pal Sharma and a large number of farmers participated in the conference. The issues confronting the orchardists of the area were discussed threadbare during the meeting. Many farmers interacted during conference and made valuable suggestions.
MLA exhorted upon the farmers to adopt Horticulture as commercial enterprise in view of its high potential for employment, nutritional security and expert value. He asked the farmers to avail the incentives of the schemes and emphasized the need for organizing such programmes in far flung areas to create awareness among the rural masses.
Director Horticulture, in his address, provided details about various incentives available under Horticulture Mission RKVY, Micro Irrigation, Medicinal Plants schemes etc.
Chief Horticulture Officer, Udhampur, S. Tarvinder Singh, extended hearty welcome to the invitees and farmers and highlighted the achievements in the district.
Director Rural Self Employment Training Institute, Udhampur, Lead Bank Officer, Udhampur, Project Coordinator, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, District Horticulture Planning and Marketing Officer, Assistant Director Indian System of Medicines and District Horticulture Officer, Udhampur also attended the conference.
