Suraj Singh retains men’s Lead Climbing title | | | EARL TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 25: Suraj Singh of Dogra Law College, Jammu retained the men’s Lead Climbing title in the 11th J&K State Sport Climbing Championship concluded at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here. In the boys section, Deepak Saini of Shiksha Niketan Higher Secondary School, Jammu retained the Lead Climbing title leaving behind Vishal Thappa of Amba Kids, Panthal (Reasi) to the second and third spot respectively. Earlier, the men’s category witnessed a fierce competition among Suraj Singh, Anil Kumar, Akshay Kumar and Rajeev Sharma who all topped the 40ft high wall in the final and even in the super final. However, Suraj was declared the winner on the basis of less time taken to top the wall. Rajeev Sharma of MAM College, Jammu was second while third place went to Anil Kumar of RS Pura. There was not much competition and quality in the women’s category. As such only Nikita Sharma and Navneet Kour, both of Shiksha Niketan were declared the winner and runners-up respectively. A record number of 269 climbers from Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Anantnag, Doda, Pulwama , Kishatwar and Kupwara participated in this championship. In the valedictory function, Dr Lalit Magotra, an eminent scientist and president of Dogri Sanstha was the chief guest. He distributed prizes and medals among the winners.
