Mufti accuses coalition Govt of encouraging corruption
9/26/2011 12:18:32 AM
UDHAMPUR: Former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayed today demanded creation of grievances cells to eradicate corruption. He was addressing a well-attended rally at Udhampur.
Mufti reminded the gathering of the steps taken during previous regime to curb corruption. He made a reference of State Accountability Commission (SAC) and accused the NC led regime of systematic demolition of such institutions which are meant for curbing corruption. "The inability of the government to make all appointments to the SAC and State Information Commission (SIC) now looks more ominous than the result of inefficiency and lack of direction of the government", he said and added that at a time when there was a country wide debate over corruption in high places, the state government has made SAC, an equivalent of the proposed Lokpal completely defunct this seems a premeditated effort at promoting corruption. He said that SAC constituted by the previous coalition regime was equal to the Lok Pal.
Sayeed said that during the last three years coalition regime has brought instability, chaos, rampant corruption and administrative anarchy in the state without being able to make any positive contribution to the situation. He observed that the NC led government has virtually abandoned its duty towards the people of the state.
He said that the same administration has delivered good governance of the people during previous PDP-Congress regime as there was nothing wrong with the administration or government employees because most of whom are dedicated, efficient and honest. "We had been able to perform much better with the same administration produced visible results but the present government has failed to tap this important human resources in an appropriate manner", he said.
Reiterating resolve of his party to restore lasting peace in this region, PDP patron strongly demanded follow-up action on the decisions taken in the recently held meeting of the Foreign Ministers of India and Pakistan to boost trade and travel across Line of Control (LoC).
"In the foreign ministers summit it was announced that cross LoC movement would be further facilitated", he said and expressed his concern over delay in implementing the decisions.
While highlighting historical role played by PDP in reviving peoples' faith in the democracy, former Chief Minister said that 2002 assembly elections was turning point in the history of the State. "After 1947 democracy was never allowed to flourish in Jammu and Kashmir but it was only after 2002 assembly elections that peoples' faith was restored in the democracy", he said.
Former Minister Rangil Singh, TS Bajwa, Thakur Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin, Shanti Devi, Vijay Dogra, Hussain Ali, Bharat Bhushan, Thakur Suram Singh, Rajinder Manhas, former MLA Prithivi Chand, Narinder Singh, Capt Anil Gour and others also addressed the rally.
