Kashmir fortunate, Jammu victim of misinformation campaign | Biased & Parochial | | Neha JAMMU, Sept 25: Kashmir is indeed very fortunate. It has leadership which works in unison, ensures all-round development in Kashmir on an unprecedented scale, fights for its people and behaves in a fashion that makes some important persons at the helm in New Delhi and outside as well as "opinion leaders" and "think-tanks" believe in what it preaches in order to extract as many concessions from New Delhi as possible. And, it has been happening since decades, particularly since 1931, when Sheikh Abdullah of Kashmir and his supporters unleashed a vilification campaign against the Dogras and the Dogra Maharaja. The Britons, who had their interests in the strategic northern areas, had also contributed considerably to what the Sheikh tried to do to promote his communal agenda and destabilize the Dogra rule. Some other powers, including the Americans, also poked their dirty nose in the state's internal affairs and sided with the likes of Sheikh Abdullah and their objective was to promote their geo-political interests in the region. The vilification campaign had its impact to the extent that an impression gained ground that the Dogra rule was anti-Kashmir and anti-Muslim and that the Kashmiri Muslims had been treated worse than the brutes. So much so that certain vested interests, including Jawaharlal Nehru, came forward to support the Sheikh Abdullah's struggle for independence from Jammu. And, ever since then, this sort of motivated campaign is going on unabated. The only difference is that while Sheikh Abdullah wanted Kashmir's independence from Jammu and the Dogras of Jammu before 1947, the Kashmiri leadership has been demanding segregation of the entire state, including Jammu province, from India after 1947. This is the only difference. Those who mattered outside the state before 1947 were with the Sheikh and supported his Kashmiri Muslim sub-nationalism much to the chagrin of the people of Jammu and those who have been at the helm outside the state and in other establishments and houses since 1947 continue to behave in the same fashion. The casualty is the poor people of Jammu province. There is none in Kashmir who is prepared to highlight the Jammu's woes and there is none in New Delhi who is prepared to take cognizance of the miserable plight of the people of Jammu province and take remedial measures taking into account the fact that problem in Jammu is both human and political, as against the over-empowered, over-fed and all-powerful Kashmir's communal problem. The story of Jammu leadership is no different. Its attitude towards the people of Jammu is largely negative What is shocking is the lack of objectivity on the part of bulk of commentators, Indians or otherwise, as also on the part of a couple of Jammu-based opinion makers. One can understand the reasons behind those belonging to places other than Jammu and Kashmir preaching non-sense, supporting the communal and separatist movement in Kashmir and suggesting solutions aimed at not only enabling Kashmir to become independent of India but also enabling Kashmir to exercise imperial powers and enslave, loot, plunder, exploit and destroy the people of Jammu province. But one surely fails to comprehend why these Jammu-based opinion makers do what the others have been doing to help Kashmir become independent and enslave and destroy the people of Jammu province. They and others of their ilk in Kashmir and elsewhere need to change their attitude and comment subject to the condition that their approach is not subjective. They should not forget that it is the people of Jammu province who have been suffering immensely at all levels and it is they who deserve a very special treatment. Will the Jammu-based "opinion makers" reform themselves and present an accurate picture of facts to expose and deflate the Kashmiri leadership and other vested interests, all seeking to wreck the Indian State and enslave Jammu and Ladakh? Objectivity demands that they and others who have been commenting on Kashmir and its "woes" should also focus their attention on the miserable plight of Jammu, which can explode anytime. |
