NC Legislative Party meeting held, inconclusive on Guru resolution | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 25: Even though ruling National Conference held its Legislative Party meeting at Srinagar today to discuss the strategy it is going to adopt during Assembly session beginning tomorrow, the party leadership is understood to have not finalised or formalised its decision on the Afzal Guru resolution on September 28. A meeting of the Legislature Party of the ruling National Conference on whether to support or oppose a resolution in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly seeking clemency for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru remained inconclusive, source said. "It is too premature to discuss the resolution. It will be done in due course of time," senior NC leader and Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather told reporters after the meeting. To a question, he said the resolution was discussed at the meeting. The state assembly, which is meeting in Srinagar tomorrow for a nine-day session, will debate the resolution submitted by independent MLA Sheikh Abdul Rashid on Wednesday. Rather said the Legislature Party would meet again for taking a decision on whether to support or oppose the resolution. National Conference President Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah did not take part in the meeting as they were out of the state. "There were some pressing official engagements. They will be back and we will meet again. There is nothing unusual," Rather said. Opposition Peoples Democratic Party has already announced it will support the resolution seeking clemency for Guru. |
