9-day Autumn session begins | House pays homage to Rajpori, ors | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sept 26: On the opening day of the J&K Legislative Assembly’s autumn session, Speaker, Mohammad Akbar Lone today moved obituary reference in remembrance of late legislators Ghulam Mohammad Mir Rajpori, Sadiq Ali, Nazir Ahmad Mir and Ahmadullah Azad. Lone highlighted the role and lifetime achievements of late leaders and said that throughout their life they worked for the welfare of the people of the state. He said late Rajpori was a close associate of late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who joined politics in 1946 and played a vital role in the Quit Kashmir Movement in the state. Later, he said, he became a member of the constituent Assembly. The Speaker described late Sadiq Ali as nature lover and environmentalist who served for the cause with dedication and zeal. He said late Nazir Ahmed Mir was renowned lawyer who played his role in the social and economic development of the people of Poonch, Rajouri areas. He said late Ahmaduallh Azad worked for the upliftment of Leh and Kargil areas as a member of Legislative Council. Several members participated in the obituary references and paid rich tributes to the late legislators and highlighted their services which they rendered for the welfare and development of the State throughout their life. The House also paid tribute to former captain of the Indian cricket team Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who died in Delhi last week. Engineer Rashid urged the House to also include the civilians killed in militancy-related violence or at the hands of security forces in the obituary references in future. The House also paid homage to the victims of the earthquake in Sikkim and called for measures to meet any similar eventuality in Jammu and Kashmir as the state is located in a quake-prone seismic zone. The House observed two minutes of silence as a mark of respect for the departed souls.
