Assembly-2011 | J&K’s distinct identity outcome of historical struggle: Tarigami | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 26: CPI (M) legislator Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that the House is a sovereign voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, which was the result of a long drawn movement launched under the leadership of Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and his companion stalwarts against the autocratic rule. Participating in the obituary motion, he said, “We belong to this soil, we are democratically elected people, ours constitutional set up is the outcome of a long anti imperialist and anti feudalism struggle that fought for distinct identity to Jammu and Kashmir” and added that Jammu and Kashmir has a long historical background. He said the State has the distinction of being the only State that had separate constituent assembly and separate constitution, which has given it distinct and unique identity in the entire sub continent. In an oblique reference to the comments of a recent high profile politician of PaK, he said, “We are not borrowed or installed’’ and reaffirmed the sanctity of the State’s Assembly and its representative House in the democratic set up. Paying rich tributes to the former legislators, Tarigami highlighted the need to follow value based politics of former Speaker, Ghulam Mohammad Mir Rajpouri, Sadiq Ali and others. He regretted that modern politics was power and pelf driven devoid of values, while the former law makers were service oriented; whose sole aim of joining politics was public welfare and common good.
