8-day Navratra festival to commence on Sept 28 at Katra | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 26: Commencing on September 28, 2011, this year’s Navratra Festival will be an 8-day event. This was disclosed by Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal today at a press conference at Jammu. Being jointly organized by the Department of Tourism, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, District administration Reasi and local people, the festival will be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand. District Development Commissioner, Reasi, P.K. Pole, Director Tourism, R.S. Mehta, Additional CEO, Shri Mata Vaishno Shrine Board, Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, Joint Director Information, Jammu, Soujanya Sharma and senior officers of concerned departments were also present. Addressing the press conference, Dr Kotwal said this Navratra festival become a leading event for highlighting the tourism potential and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Jammu region. He said Katra, which is the base camp for the pilgrimage to the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, will be decorated during the 8 day festivities. Besides, leading corporate houses and devotees of Mata will be sponsoring some of the activities to be undertaken during the festival. Dr Kotwal said that the inaugural ceremony of the festival at Katra will take place on 28th September, 2011 at Asia Chowk at 12 Noon. Besides, Shoba Yatra Cum Cultural Procession of troupes and tableaux exhibiting culture and traditions of Jammu will commence from Asia Chowk during the Navratra days. All India Devotional Songs Competition will held at Yoga Ashram ground which will have contestants from different parts of the country and grand finale will be held on 05 October, 2011 at 8.30 P.M. The winner will be awarded a prize of Rs. 1 lakh with gold coin of the Goddess which will be given by SMVDSB.
