| Cop among five arrested for robbing villagers | | | Billawar (Kathua) Dec 6 Police today claimed to have busted a gang involved in robbing people on gun point in Malhar area of Billawar in Kathua district. The group of robbers was active in the area for last few months Sources infgormed that police on receiving complaints from the people about the presence of militants in the area who were robbing them of their valuables on gun point. Sources said that yesterday when a group of four masked persons entered in the house of a villager the family members raised an alarm attracting the attention of neighbourers. Who came out of their houses and caught hold one of the members of the gang and handed him over to the police, Sources added. However other three persons managed to flee from the spot. The arrested person was taken to Malhar police station who however was not a militant but a constable of Jammu Kashmir police and king pin of the gang. The arrested police constable, sources said was posted in District Police lines Jammu. After sustained interrogation he revealed the identity of other four persons of his gang. Police team headed by SHO Malhar Police station Jaswant Singh conduct raids at different places and arrested four other persons involved in about a dozen robberies conducted by posing themselves as militants. “We were receiving complaints from the last few weeks and meanwhile one person was handed over to police by the villagers” a police officer said adding that five persons including a police constable has been arrested in this regard. Those arrested include Constable Gul Mohd, Mohd Saleem, Kamal Singh, Mohd Rafiq and Mohd Shafiq Police has reportedly recovered some jewellery and a gun used by the group and has registered a case under section 392,458RPC and 4/25 of arms act.
