Issues of SPOs, Home guards strike raised in Jammu and Kashmir assembly | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sep 27: Jammu and Kashmir government today said that the issue of wages and regularisation of Special Police Officers has been taken up with the Centre. The issue was raised by National Panthers Party legislative party leader Haresh Dev Singh in the Legislative Assembly here today during Zero Hour.
He said it was matter of concern that important issues could not be taken up during Question Hour due to uproar.
Mr Singh said the Zero Hour was not being taken seriously as there was hardly anybody in officials gallery.
He said all SPOs and Home Guards are on strike demanding increase in their wages.
They are being paid Rs 3,000 which is violation of minimum wages Act which says that a daily wager be paid Rs 125 per day. It was also a Human Rights violation, he said, adding the SPOs are working round-the-clock risking their lives.
He further alleged that these SPOs are being ignored in selection in police force.
There is a pick and choose in police recruitment, he alleged and said SPOs, Home guards and VDC members were without wages for the past one year.
He wanted to know the steps being taken by the government for the welfare of SPOs, Home guards and VDC members.
Law and Parliamentary affairs minister Ali Mohammad Sagar said that the matter of SPOs has already been taken up with the Centre in July this year.
He said the wages of SPOs will be raised from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 which though was not enough.
Mr Sagar said those who have completed three years in service and have some experience in conducting operations or ITI certificate will be considered for permanent employment.
He said 524 and 384 were SPOs were appointed in Udhampur and Samba constituencies.
