Kashmir Gymkhana wins Noor-ud-Din cricket trophy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sept 27: Kashmir Gymkhana lifted the 10th Mirza Noor-ud-Din Memorial Cricket trophy outplaying ACC Reds by seven wickets in the final played at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, here today. Earlier, after winning the toss, ACC bowled out for 168 runs in 39.2 overs. It was superb bowling spell from Waseem Raza that restricted ACC to a modest total. He scalped five wickets. Asif Khan remained unbeaten on 54 runs. Later, Kashmir Gymkhana attained the goal making 169 runs in just 27.4 overs with seven wickets in hand. The winner team was awarded a cash prize of Rs 75,000 while the runners-up got Rs 50,000. Fayaz Hazzaray of Sangam Reds was adjudged man of the series. He was awarded Rs 10,000 cash while the man of the match title holder, Waseem Raza awarded Rs 5000. Sangam scored 296 runs and took three wickets. In all, 79 matches including qualifying rounds were played in the tournament out of which 64 matches were played at Kashmir University Ground and the rest were played at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Srinagar besides a couple of matches that were played at SP College Ground. The tournament was sponsored and organized by Amateur Cricket Club. Initially, the tournament featured 48 affiliated teams. However, after seeing the great interest by other teams also more 32 teams were included in the tournament. Qualifying rounds were arranged and only 16 teams were incorporated in the regular fixture.
