GDC Kathua is new men’s chess champion | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 27: Government Degree College Kathua today emerged as new inter-college men’s chess champion defeating the title holders, GDC Udhampur 3-1 in the final played at GGM Science College, here. Lost in the semifinals last year, Kathua College this time entered into the competition targeting the trophy. And, to make it to the final, they (Kathua) sidelined the last year’s runners-up, SPMR College of Commerce yesterday. The Results: Kirti Kumar Khajuria bt Sunil Kumar Sharma; Nageshwar Jasrotia bt Munish Sharma; Vivek Sharma bt Ishan Singh; Nitin Kad lost to Kanav Sharma.
GCW Parade retains title
Meanwhile, Government College for Women (GCW), Parade retained the women’s chess trophy. In the final, played today, Parade College outplayed the same opponent in GGM Science College 4-0. The Results: Neetika Gandotra bt Usha Birdi; Sanmeet Kaur bt Bandana Devi; Gurpreet Kour bt Manisha Shishu; Malika Mishra bt Karamjeet Kaur. In the prize distribution function, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau was chief guest. Principal of the host GGM Science College, Dr Satinder Singh was guest of honour. The chess competition was officiated by Sushil Sawhney and SP Sharma under the supervision of incharge tournament, PD Singh. Among others present were Director Physical Education, Science College, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Romesh Sharma, Prof Rajesh Kotwal, Dr Avinash Kumar Gupta, Suman Sharma and Prof Rakesh Kumar.
