Revival plan for sick Horticulture Grading Units on anvil: Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sep 27:Government has submitted a comprehensive Rs 50 crore plan to the Centre for revival of various sick Horticulture grading Centres across the State due to long turmoil. This was stated by the Minister for Horticulture, Sham Lal in reply to question of Dr Bashir Ahmed Shah (Veeri) and supplementaries by Sheikh Ghulam Rasool on a question regarding re-opening of apple juice concentrate plants in various parts of the State. The Minister said that Government has taken multi dimensional initiatives to boost horticulture industry adding that 22 fruit and vegetable Mandies have been established across the State. Of these, 11 mandies were upgraded during last two years which include fruit Mandies at Primpora, Sopore, Narwal Jammu, Shopian, Chari-Sharief, Handwara, Kupwara, Baramulla. He said under Technology Mission, main thrust is on horticulture expansion. He further said, that government is promoting private sector for developing post harvest management facilities like grading and packaging centres and Compressed Atmosphere Stores (CA)adding that two such units have already come up at Industrial Growth Centres, Lassipora and other three Units are in pipeline. He said due to concerted efforts of the Horticulture Department, the fruit production has increased from 13 lac mts. In 2008-09 to 22.5 lakh Mts which is expected to 40 lac MTs this year. He said due to excellent performance, J&K in horticulture sector, the State has won prestigious Leadership Award in the Country.
