9/27/2011 11:51:37 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept. 27 : With Controversial Afzal Guru resolution coming up for all important debate on Wednesday in state assembly, all the political parties including coalition partners National Conference and Congress were busy in late night deliberations. With two main opposition parties PDP and BJP making their intentions very much clear, though toeing different lines on the resolution, hectic discussions between NC and Congress top brass were also on till late evening, however sources suggested that there was a difference of opinion within state congress on the issue.
In a meeting held by ruling national conference in the late evening sources said that party high command declared there would be no whip issued over the resolution . The Mlas were asked to decided and act as per their own conscious
According to sources Dy. CM and senior congress leader Tara Chand chaired a meeting of party legislators at his residence in the evening; however two senior leaders Taj Mohi u din and Sham lal Sharma stayed out of the meeting. In the meantime, BJP has claimed that some National conference legislators are in league with BJP to oppose the resolution. Chaman Lal Gupta, senior BJP leader told KNS that they will oppose the resolution with full strength. He said,'' How can a resolution regarding clemency be tabled on the floor of the assembly when the supreme court of India has already come up with a verdict." Accusing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for triggering a fresh controversy, Gupta said,' His tweet has triggered a fresh controversy and both National Conference and Congress will be exposed tomorrow.''. Raising questions on the credibility of the motion, another BJP leader Ashok Khajuria told resolution was rejected but it is ironic that Er. Rashid's resolution was not only admitted but also being voted upon. Meanwhile a top national conference Leader while criticizing Speaker M. Akbar lone told KNS that the speaker mishandled the situation. '' Mr. lone has shown immaturity by admitting the resolution. He should not have admitted the resolution at first place." added the leader. Pertinently it will be for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, when State assembly will be holding a debate on granting a clemency for a person who has been convicted by the supreme court of India .
