‘Resolution seeking mercy to Afzal Guru unconstitutional’ | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sep 28: The Jammu based leaders today said that the resolution admitted in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, seeking mercy to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, was unconstitutional. "How can the resolution, moved by independent member from Langate Engineer Sheikh Abdul Rashid seeking mercy for a person who attacked the parliament, was admitted in the house," senior leader and MLA Jammu West Prof Chaman Lal Gupta said. After the house was adjourned by the speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone, he said it was anti national act. "We will not allow such resolution to be discussed in the assembly," he said. About the protests by the Congress members, demanding action against the BJP members under anti defection law for voting against the party whip during election to Legislative Council, Gupta said it was nothing but to divert the attention of the people from real issues. "Today we are one," referring to two factions of the BJP, he said our voice against the resolution is no different. However, suspended BJP MLA Jagdish Raj Sapolia said Congress members who stormed into the well of the house also did not want the resolution to come up for discussion in the house. They (Congress) know if the resolution will come up for discussion they will be exposed before the people as they have to vote in favour or against it. Senior BJP leader Ashok Kumar Khajuria said the Congress protest was nothing but “Chor Machaye Shor.”
