J&K committed to make Panchayati Raj vibrant

JAMMU, Sept 28: Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr. Pawan Kotwal forcefully advocated commitment of state government to make Panchayati Raj successful.
He was speaking at a seminar on the Role of Panchayats in rural development, organized by the IIPA. Kotwal laid stress on training followed by commitment from all stake holders to make Panchayat Raj functional and vibrant.
Former Director Agriculture Rural Development Department D.P.Khajuria and former Commissioner Development M.I. Sadiq and Principal Regional Extension Training Centre Jammu were also present on the occasion. The two speakers in their deliberation emphasized on need for training of Sarpanches, Panches and field functionaries of Rural Department Development.
The likely relationship of the Panchayat with line departments was explained in detail alongwith likely role to be played by the single line administration in the district. The block agencies will have to function as friend, philosopher and guide for Panchayat Raj Institutions. Function was attended by vice-chancellor Centre University Jammu Dr S.S. Baloeria, officers of revenue, rural development department including ACDs, BDOs, Panchayat inspectors, Sarpanches and Panches and IIPA members.
Chairman IIPA Dr Ashok Bhan presided over the function. Shafiq Ahmed Raina, Director Rural Development Jammu was Guest of Honour. J.B.S.Johar, Secretary IIPA, J&K Regional branch in his welcome address gave a brief about the importance of holding the lecture on the topic. He also gave a brief resume of the two speakers.
