5 held, 35 kilogram poppy straw seized | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 28: Jammu Police apprehended five drug peddlers from a Punjab bound Tata Sumo and recovered 35 Kilograms of Poppy Straw from their possession. In a specially organised naka, Manwal Police subjected a Tata Sumo going from Kashmir Valley to Punjab on Samba-Udhampur highway to thoroughly checking and recovered 35 kgs Poppy Straw hidden in specially made cavities inside ceiling of the vehicle. Police personnel immediately took the five incumbents of the Tata sumo into the custody who have been identified as (1) Kuldeep Singh S/O Asra Singh caste Ramdassi R/O Tungheri Tehsil Raikot Ludhiana, (2) Ranjeet Singh S/O Avtar Singh, (3) Darshan S/O Mohinder Singh, (4) Sandeep Singh S/O Sardara Singh, (5) Beer Singh S/O Lachman Singh all R/O Pakhowal Tehsil Raikot Ludhiana (Punjab). On questioning the drug peddlers revealed that they were smuggling Poppy Straw from Kashmir Valley to Punjab in the recent past also and present consignment was brought from Bandipora Kashmir. A case FIR No. 147/2011 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act police station Jhajjar Kotli has been registered and further investigation is going on.
