9/28/2011 9:16:05 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sep 28:-It is irony and the matter of great distress that that the people who were displaced from the Pakistan occupied part of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 are still aggrieved, Jammu State Morcha leader Prof Virender Gupta said.
Addressing a press conference here today, Prof Gupta said that the refugees are agitating for the last over sixty years, however, no compensation has been provided to them for the holocaustic sufferings they faced.
He said that the Government of India and Jammu and Kashmir Govt. have not evolved any concrete policy to attend to their grievances, settle their due claims once for all.
These displaced persons had undergone through enormous miseries and faced extremely difficult situations after being uprooted from their native places.
They were not given any preferential treatment in providing Govt. jobs, helped in starting their own venture/business to earn both ends meal and any regular monetary assistance for sustaining their families. As the Government of India could not till date got vacated the illegally occupied part of Jammu and Kashmir, to which these displaced persons belong to, even after the passage of 64 years the Government of India now owes the responsibility to once for all settle the claims and issues pertaining to POK displaced persons. Our demands are:
Prof Gupta demanded that any process of negotiation to resolve Jammu and Kashmir tangle, the 1947 displaced persons (with estimated population of about 15 lakh) have to be involved because they are the only people who suffered maximum because of the Pakistan aggression and illegal occupation of the area to which they belong, by Pakistan. Their settlement as per their wishes and aspirations should be the prime concern in any resolution of J&K issue.
He also demanded due compensation to the displaced persons. Rs 50 lakh be paid to each displaced family of POK, Gupta said.
