BJP holds protest, burns Afzal Guru's effigy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 28: To protest against resolution on clemency to 2001 Parliament convict Afzal Guru, the Bharatiya Janata Party today burnt his effigy. Led by BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas, party activists this afternoon assembled at City Chowk area amid anti-government and anti-Afzal Guru slogans. The BJP leaders burnt effigy of Afzal Guru and condemned the Kashmir based leadership for introducing resolution in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on mercy to Guru. "We have demonstrated to oppose mercy to the anti-nationalist, who was among the attackers on Parliament," Manhas. He said that the BJP legislators also staged protest in the ongoing special Assembly session in Srinagar where the House today debated on the resolution seeking clemency to the convict. "The BJP workers led by the district presidents also demonstrated at 19 places across the state opposing mercy to Guru," the BJP president said. Manhas also condemned Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for recently tweeting over clemency to Guru and termed it ‘unconstitutional’.
