Sham reviews progress of RSBY scheme

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 28- In order to review the progress of implementation of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma convened a high level meeting of officers here today.
Stressing the need for close coordination between various departments and agencies associated with the implementation process, the Minister asked for clearing the bottlenecks to expedite the process. He directed the Director Family Welfare who is also the State Nodal Officer to personally monitor the progress on day-to-day basis so that the Yojna is implemented in the State at the earliest.
The meeting nominated Additional Deputy Commissioners of Jammu and Srinagar to act as Nodal Officers for these districts, who will also designate other members from the health department and start immediate functioning.
While giving details about the progress achieved till date, the State Nodal Officer, Dr. Rakesh Khajuria informed that in response to the advertisement notice of Government, six leading insurance companies offered the bids. Out of these, five companies were found eligible for financial bid and one was disqualified for lack of some technicalities. Finally the United India Insurance Company Ltd was found lowest bidder and was approved by the committee of officers constituted by the Government for the purpose. The decision of the committee has been conveyed to the Director Labour Welfare, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India for its approval.
The objective of the RSBY is to provide protection to BPL household from financial liabilities arising out health shocks, which involves hospitalization. The beneficiaries under RSBY scheme are entitled to cashless hospitalization coverage for most of the diseases that required hospitalization through an identified network of health care providers upto Rs. 30,000 per family per annum.
