9/29/2011 8:09:23 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Sep 29:Jammu Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) MLAs protests against abuse of public exchequer in Colleges allotment.
Leader of the Panthers Legislature Party Harsh Dev Singh lodged his strong protest in the Legislative Assembly against the abuse of pubic exchequer and misuse of authority in the matter of opening of Degree Colleges in the state.
He charged the government of bias, violation of norms and procedures and political vendetta in the matter of Colleges opening. He alleged that locations of Colleges as approved by Government of India (GOI) were unilaterally changed by the state government purely for political reasons at the behest of coalition partners. He said that the government of India has identified eleven location districts for the purpose which were arbitrarily altered for vested interests and personal and political considerations by the state government which sanctioned the opening of the said Colleges in their political constituencies.
Harsh Dev Singh said ‘The most ugly, alarming and distressing aspect of the matter has been the sanction one such model Degree College by the Minister of Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik in his own native village named Serh Bagga tehsil Mahore, in District Reasi.
He clarified that the said village is the native village of the Minister for Higher Education and further falls in Reasi District which has not been approved as locational District by UGC/Govt. of India.
Further there already exists one Degree College named Degree College Dharmari in the area in the same tehsil which had only 31 college going students on its rolls.
He said existing college does not have sufficient number of college going students and is on the brink of closure due to non-requirement for the same.
Harsh Dev Singh was later joined by other JKNPP MLAs Balwant Singh Mankotia and Yashpal Kundal, all the three MLAs came into the well of the House and staged dharna there.
The dharna was lifted by the NPP MLAs on the assurance of the Speaker that justice would be ensured with regard to the issues raised by the JKNPP MLAs particular reference to the opening of Degree College in Majalta.
