20 cases of hepatitis reported in Pahalgam during Yatra, treated | Assembly -2011 | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sep 29: Minister for Health, Sham Lal Sharma today informed the House that there was no outbreak of Hepatitis in various villages of Pahalgam especially Sallar, Liver and Veerseran. He however said that there were sporadic cases of hepatitis in Pahalgam area during the Yatra period. Minister said this while replying to calling attention notice by Mohammad Rafi Mir today. Sham Lal said that 20 cases were identified having symptoms of hepatitis which belong to different villages of the area. He said that most of the persons who were found infected with the hepatitis were the labourers who were attending the Yatries during the Yatra period. Minister said the cases were treated locally and no death were reported. He said these cases were because of the water borne disease (hepatitis-E) and serology of cases was done. He said serology showed that it was not hepatitis-B. The Minister said water samples were taken which was found contaminated. He said extensive health education was conducted in the area regarding personal hygiene and use of clean boiled water, adding that no cases were seen after that.
