SKUAST holds training program on water productivity | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sep 29: To create awareness regarding diminishing water resources, a fourteen days training program on “Scaling up of water productivity in agriculture for livelihood through teaching-cum-demonstration” was held in SKUAST-Jammu. The programme was coordinated by Er.N.K.Gupta, Senior Scientist, Water Management Research Centre, SKUAST Jammu in which 27 officers of Agriculture department from various district of Jammu province participated from 15-28 September2011 . During the valedictory function, Joint Director, Agriculture Extension Dr.S.S.Jamwal deliberated upon share of water use other than agriculture. Chief Scientist and Head, Water Management Research Centre Chatha, Jammu Dr. A.K.Raina, who was the Guest of honour discussed losses due to soil erosion and their conservation measures. He further added that union ministry of Agriculture through Indian Council of Agricultural Research launched the said project to create awareness among the masses to save water. Briefing the dignitaries, trainee officers said that the 14 days training program imparted them the technical knowledge on overall scenario of water availability, tapping of runoff in the soil, water harvesting, estimation of water requirement of crops both agricultural as well as horticultural, drought and their management, water measuring devices and low cost structure to prevent soil erosion. Participants appreciated the course content and they further added that by acquiring such type of training in which all the things were discussed theoretically followed by practical and later on field visit raised their confidence level and for this, the efforts of Nodal officer Er.N.K.Gupta cum course coordinator were appreciated. Compendium made for the said training program was also released.
