KATHUA DEC-06
Kathua Police today claimed to have achieved major success by working out several dacoity, looting and rape cases in the District by arresting five accused, including a police constable and a VDC member.
According to SSP Kathua, the Police personnel of Malhar P/S under the supervision of SHO SI Jaswant Singh after hectic investigations, succeed in arresting five accused namely Gul Mohammed, Anayat Ali, Kamal Chand @ Fambi, Mohammed Saleem, all residents of Malhar and Mohammed Rafiq of Lohai. He said one of the accused arrested turned out to be a constable whereas another a VDC member. The entire operation was conducted under his supervision.
The SSP said that the miscreants had created a terror in Malhar and the adjoining areas by breaking into civilian’s houses posing as militants and decamping with valuables including cash, gold and silver. The modus operandi of the group led by Gul Mohammed was to enter the houses of the civilians at night posing as security forces personnel and demand for search of the house and once they enter, they declared themselves as militants and looted valuables on the gun point using toy guns and sticks as guns.
The SSP further said that in one of the incident they raped a woman by using artificial bear and hair to look like militants in order to create fear and make their job easy. He said the police was able to recover gold worth Rs. one lakh, Rs.20000 worth silver and Rs.5000 cash from the accused, in addition to the weapons used, including a dragger.
The SSP said that Police heaved a sigh of relief with the arrest of the desperadoes who had created terror in the area during the last 5-6 months adding that investigation of the case is continuing.
