Sport Climbing gains popularity | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 29: The adventurous sport of Sport Climbing is fast graining popularity in the far-flung districts of Jammu and Srinagar, especially in view of participation of a team from district Kupwara in the recently held State Sport Climbing Championship, here. Furthermore, the teams from district Udhampur and Reasi showed their domination winning as many as eight medals, including three gold, in different age groups of boys’ and girls’. “The most pleasant aspect of the competition was participation of a seven-member team from Kupwara. It was the first time that a team from Kupwara participated in the state sport climbing championship,” said general secretary of the J&K Mountaineering Association, Ram Khajuria. He further said, “Though the team did not perform well yet Kupwara boys were the most excited and happiest lot on seeing the huge 40 ft high climbing wall for the first time.” Talking to Sports & Allied News, Irshad Ahmad, the manager of the team disclosed it was the first time that these boys had come to Jammu to participate in any state level competition in last 64 years. He had a word of appreciation and gratitude for the Mountaineering Association for giving opportunity to a team from a far-flung and backward district to participate in the prestigious competition.
