| MAM Coll organises seminar on ‘Unravelling Chemical Mystique’ | | |  EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sep 29:The department of Chemistry of Govt MAM College, Jammu in collaboration with Career Counselling Centre today organized a one day seminar on the topic, Unravelling Chemical Mystique to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry (IYC-2011) in accordance with the resolution adopted by 63rd General Assembly of United Nation in 2008.
Dr. Abid Hamid Oar, Scientist cancer pharmacology department of I.I.I.M Jammu was the resource person and principal of the college Dr. Ajeet Angral was the guest of honour on the occasion.
Programme started with the welcome address by Principal in which he hoped that such seminars will help in devising new strategies and revitalizing the existing ones to ensure the progress in chemical education and research. He advised the students to take maximum benefit from such type of programmes. Dr. Sangeeta Sudan HOD Chemistry in her key note address emphasized that the aim of celebrating international year of chemistry is to promote the interest of subject among students.
Dr. Abid Hamid Oar in his address on the topic, "Natural Products and Cancer Chemotherapies" enlightened the drug discovery programme being carried out at IIIM Jammu.
He emphasized on the interdisciplinary approach of chemical science. His main focus was to aware the students and public about importance of chemical compound particularly natural products towards cancer chemotherapies and to motivate the students by explaining various career options in the field of drug industry.
The faculty members also made their presentation followed by interactive sessions. The programme concluded with in impressing group discussion of students with resource person followed by presentation of different group leaders.
