Khoda releases ‘My Stamps’ on Kashmir, | Describes importance of postal services | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sept 29 (KNS): Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda has said that department of Postal Services has been serving to the people from the early days and the department has to expand its services to meet the tremendous pressure mounted due to introduction of latest means of communication in the modern times. Khoda was speaking at the concluding function of Chinar-2011 J&K Philatelic Exhibition held at SKICC here today. The four day exhibition was organised by Jammu and Kashmir Postal Services Circle in which more than one lakh postal stamps were displayed. Mr. Khoda, who was the Chief Guest on the function released two My Stamps of Royal Springs Golf Course and Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC). He said that the release of the stamps would focus on the tourist attraction spots not only at national but at international level also. Praising J and K Postal Services Department for organizing such grand exhibition in the valley, the DGP said that it would help the people, generally the student community to get knowledge about their past. He said that such efforts would get the people close to the department and also help in promoting the tourism. He also inspected the gallery and took keen interest in the stamps displayed in the exhibition. He praised the people who had displayed their collections in the exhibition and said that it speaks efforts behind their hobby of collecting stamps. Earlier John Samuel Director General of Postal Services J&K Circle in his welcome address deliberated on aims and objectives for organizing the philatelic exhibition. He said that the exhibition has been organised in the valley after a long time and we have received a good response from the public which has encouraged to organise more such exhibitions in other parts of the State in next coming months. He said that more than ten thousand visitors and large number of school children visited the exhibition during four days, besides some local parties displayed their collections in the exhibition. He disclosed that one of the rarest black penny was also displayed in the exhibition. On the occasion Mr. Samuel announced establishment of Post Office at Lal Bazar in Srinagar. He said that the department has not worked on forefront in the times of communication but also for the development of the society. Besides a large number of people and School Children, the function was attended by Farooq Ahmed Shah Director Tourism, Kashmir, Dr. G.N Qasba, Director SKICC and Anil Sharma, Director, Postal Services Kashmir.
