Mess in Education Department
9/30/2011 12:46:55 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 29: Notwithstanding the claims of Government to put Education Department back on rails in the state in general and far-flung areas in particular which has received a great set back during the 22 year long turmoil , the sad state of affairs continues in the educational institutions in far flung areas of the state.
According to sources failure of Government to make a check and monitor the functioning of educational institutions has resulted into a mess in the Department as schools are locked for days together in remote and far-flung areas with teachers enjoying the liberty.
Sources said recently in Balakote area of Mendhar tehsil the Deputy Chief Education officer recommended the suspension of 19 teachers to Chief Education Officer Poonch who were found absent from duty during the surprise visit of Deputy CEO on September 15. Later the same officer also during his surprise visit recommended suspension of more teachers in different areas of the Zone who too were found absent from duty after keeping the school locked.
The sources said the sad state of affairs in the Department has reached to such an extent that two schools were found running at a distance of 50 metres under the same name in village Narota Khanna of Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district. Though the first school was functioning since 2004, the second was opened over a year back. The local ZEO Balakote who was fully aware of the functioning of the two schools had also provided the basic infrastructure to second school which was running by a one teacher having five students on roll.
The people of the area had made many complaints before the higher authorities including Director School Education and Deputy Commissioner Jammu and they issued directives to CEO Poonch to investigate the matter. The CEO later instructed Deputy CEO Mendhar to visit the area and have at an on spot study of the situation. The Deputy CEO seized the papers of both the schools and has sought an explanation from concerned ZEO, sources added.
Sources said the first school had two female ReT teachers and the second teacher of the School was not given wages for over one year by ZEO. This being the serious matter the people have demanded a thorough probe into the role ZEO also as to why the salary was not paid to second teacher when the same has been drawn from the treasury.
The authorities have ordered probe into the matter and after thorough investigation the action will be taken against the erring officer and officials. This is not the rare case but in this remote belt the teachers continue to remain absent from Schools and yesterday during his surprise visit the Deputy CEO ordered suspension of two more teachers in the area who were absent from the duty.
