Cong 'overstretching' cross voting issue to pull down rivals | 'Cover up' politics on Guru resolution ….? | | Saroj Razdan JAMMU, Sept 29: What ruling Congress did in the Assembly on Wednesday is well understood as a matter of political compulsion and in order to save itself from any possible damage over Afzal Guru issue. Both its ministers and MLAs digressed completely and instead colluded directly with its opponent BJP, that too on an issue which for long has now been pushed into political oblivion in the state scene. Both sides raised pitch , resulting in ruckus and pandemonium and eventually adjournment of House, which was all on expected lines. The ruling national party did not 'wrap' this up and tried to pull up the rival party today as well, something which now looks like doing 'cover up' politics for the sake of politics. True that the way things happened and concluded on Wednesday must have given breather for both alliance partners NC as well as Congress as both were worried over its 'fallout' in their respective constituencies. In the long run what will happen and how people are going to take the 'role' and strategy both parties adopted is something different. But one wonders at the role Congress continues to adopt in the Assembly. There are questions which even politically naive persons can ask over the manner Congress is dragging BJP . Party MLAs' clamour and noise over cross voting issue in the House and emphasis on naming those involved in the offence , insisting the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone and in the process wasting the time that House could utilise for meaningful business , looks nothing less than overt politics. The political observers are looking at it as attempt to cover up their actual role and strategy on Guru resolution, and its continuity on the second consecutive day in order to make it appear they did not raise the issue of cross voting attacking BJP as a part of pre decided strategy to 'fail' and let the Guru resolution get collapsed before it could be taken up for debate. All a part of the game called politics but Congress has flawed and continues to falter in performing its role. There are questions which the party leadership could have kept in mind before raking up the issue of cross voting and making it a means to take on rival BJP in the House. One that party leadership all these months from April onwards kept silent and avoided even media queries on its response to what BJP members indulged in and how they did. The Congress leaders avoided it contending it was BJP's internal matter and for them to see who all were involved. Congress did it because the cat of cross voting helped it in particular and coalition as a whole in terms of victory of their candidates in the LC polls. One more relevant question remains why the Congress party raised and raked this issue on the third day of Assembly session and what made them adopt silence, notwithstanding the fact the issue of two factions of BJP and their separate leadership was raised in a lighter vein by some other members in the House. Why party members are sticking to political rhetoric of naming and identifying the 'culprits', when all stands cleared and declared by the BJP itself. The Congress can surely not afford to play such 'ignorance' or project the party is not aware of the things. It is certainly to pull down the image of opponent. But over stretching the issue at this juncture when it has no relevance makes no sense or any benefit to Congress. For it only appears that party is trying to fill up its political space and make itself politically relevant when almost all parties are clear and have specific issues with clear stands, including its own ally NC. Worse for the Congress is that even the two factions of BJP, which remain divided were seen ideologically united on the Afzal Guru resolution. Its high time Congress finds some people oriented and better issues where it can hit out at BJP and damage their constituency in Jammu. |
