Not being allowed to spend funds under CDF: PDP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sep 30 : The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party today said the members could not utilise the funds under Constituency Development Fund due to delay in making estimations of works by the concerned officials.
Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammad Sagar, who was directed by Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone to come up with a detailed report about the allegation by PDP legislative party leader Mehbooba Mufti yesterday, said two Executive Engineers have been attached to the Directorate of Rural Development, Kashmir, after reports against them were received from Assistant Commissioner, Development, in Shopian district.
Mr Lone, in response to Ms Mufti's allegation had asked the concerned Minister yesterday to come up with the comprehensive report about the allegation in the House by today.
Ms Mufti had alleged that considerable time was getting lost due to delay by officials in making the estimation of works under CDF in her constituency.
During 2009, the officials said funds under CDF could not be utilised because of Shopian protests, the PDP leader said.
Last year there were protests and no work could be done, she added.
"We are not asking for any funds for undertaking development works in our constituencies, but we are not being allowed to utilise our own funds," she alleged and demanded that these engineers should not be posted again in Shopian after the Assembly session is over.
She further said 694 estimations were pending in Shopian for which they have already agreed to provide funds under CDF.
Leader of the Opposition also alleged that there was shortage of staff in the Rural Development department with the result people were suffering.
Mr Sagar, assured the members that the engineers would not be posted again in Shopian and the new official would be directed to speed up the work of estimation of works.
