Home Guards’ dharna enters second day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sept 30 The dharna launched by J&K Home Guards Association has entered the fifth day today. The demonstration was led by Kamla Sharma, president of the Association, wherein the protestors showing their resentment against the Finance Minister alleged that he was creating hurdles in regularization of home guards. They also garlanded his effigy with currency notes as a mark of protest. Home Guards Association averred that ` 150 crore of funds are being sent by Central Government where as the State Government is siphoning these funds to other segments after ignoring the home guards, said Mrs Sharma. She said the meager amount of ` 545 per month is an injustice with these hapless employees. She urged the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, to be kind enough and consider the demands, as the families of homeguards have already suffered a lot. She urged the Government to look into the matter and provide justice to the hapless jawans of homeguards. Mrs Sharma also made an appeal to the MLAs of opposition parties to raise the issue in State Assembly. She said that appeals are being made for the mercy of dreaded terrorist but not for saving the families of thousands of homeguards, who have been denied the justice by the Government. Rakesh Kumar general secretary and Tarseem Kumar cashier of the Association also addressed the demonstrators. Prof. Bhim Singh Chairman National Panther’s Party while addressing the home guards categorically said that the home guards should get all those benefits which have home guards are getting in West Bengal. This is high time that state Govt. should come forward and honestly agree upon the just demands of Home-guards who have already suffered a lot and many of them are at the verge of retiring. Bhim assured his party’s full support to the home guards and said that these kinds of excesses has one reply that is re-organistion of Jammu & Kashmir state so that all three regions can decided their own fate.
