Natrang ,Sangeet Natak Akademi start major project to revive ‘Bhand Pather’ in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, October 1: Major project to revive the age old theatre tradition of Kashmir ‘Bhand Pather’ started here with a big bang in presence of the leading theatre personalities of the state. The inaugural function was held at the Seminar Hall of J&K Academy of Art Culture, and Languages at Lal Mandi, Srinagar.
Organized National Academy of Music Dance and drama, New Delhi in collaboration with Natrang, Jammu, the inaugural function was presided over by Zaffar Iqbal Manhas Secretary J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages and the presidium included Amin Bhatt, Sajood Sailani, Bhawani Yasir and Nissar Naseem.
Welcoming the guests on behalf of National Academy of Music Dance and Drama and Natrang Jammu, Natrang Director Balwant Thakur dwelt in detail about the whole concept about the workshop and the follow up programme of revival of one of the most vibrant traditional theatre of the country, ‘Bhand Pather’ and Natrang’s mission to revive the cultural life of the state of Jammu & Kashmir. In the present workshop twenty writers/directors and leaders of the Bhand theatre groups will be trained to conceptualize twenty new productions which will later be staged in twenty different places of Kashmir. With 120 shows in whole length and breadth of Kashmir Valley will be covered thus reaching out to lakhs of the audiences.
Moti Lal Kemmu- a legendary figure of Kashmiri theatre who is both Sahitya Akademi and Sangeet natak Akademi Awardee is the workshop director. Speaking on the occasion he said that Bhand Pather is one of the most dynamic theatre which has all ingredients of performing and plastic arts.
Other experts who spoke on the occasion included Zafar Iqbal Manhas, Nisar Naseem , Amin Bhatt, Bhawani Yasir, and Sajood Sailini. All Complimented the National Academy and Natrang for taking this historic step to revive the dying cultural tradition of Kashmir.
