GCW Parade organises lecture on Organic Chemistry | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 1: The Department of Chemistry, GCW Parade Ground Jammu in connection with celebrations of “International year of Chemistry 2011” organized a guest lecture on the topic “Perspectives in Organic Chemistry with special reference to natural products utility.” On this occasion Prof T K Razdan, Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu was the resource person while Dr Kiran Bakshi, Principal of the college presided over the function. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kiran Bakshi Principal of the college stressed upon the need for encouraging interest in Chemistry among the students and its appreciation in meeting world needs. She also lauded the efforts of Department of Chemistry of the college for organizing such events and encouraged the students to take maximum benefits out of such type of lectures. Prof. T.K. Razdan, while delivering his lecture gave a detailed deliberation upon the use of natural products in our day to day life and also their scope in applied Chemistry and their Medicinal use. He emphasized that Chemistry is a creative science essential for sustainability and improvement. Earlier, Head of the Chemistry Department, Dr. Veena Pandita welcomed the guests and gave a brief description of Prof. T.K Razdan, particularly his contributions in the field of Chemistry at national and international level. She also threw light on the aim of celebrating “International year of Chemistry” and also disclosed that the department is going to start with a series of popular lectures and other activities involving students and teachers to celebrate this year of Chemistry. The students of B Sc- Part-III (Chemistry), Heads of various departments and faculty members of Chemistry attended the lecture. The proceedings of the function were conducted by Dr MS Pathania while Dr SDS Jamwal presented vote of thanks.
