JAMMU, Oct 1: For last one year a family is waiting for the nod of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to clear the medical aid file of their six-year old son who is suffering from a disease that requires expensive medicines for survival.
Jaskirat Singh is suffering from life threatening disease Primary Immuno deficiency Disorder (Bruton’s Hypogammaglobulinemia) an incurable disease.

The boy hailing from a poor family is being regularly taken to PGI Chandigarh for the treatment at the Pediatric Immuno deficiency Clinic since October 2009, as it is the only place to add few more months to his life.

It is pertinent to mention here that Deputy Commissioners (DC) office has cleared the case with recommendation that family need Rs 18000 to Rs 22000 per month for purchasing injection, which is the only short term treatment.
He said that they have been approaching officials regularly for last one year, but every time they have to face rejection. “Their answer is simple, that they cannot do anything as it is CM who has to take the final decision with regard to the grant of demanded medical assistance”, he said. According to medical terminology, the disease is result of very low levels of serum IgG and mandates intravenous immunoglobin (IVIG) injection every month to keep the boy alive.

This is very costly drug and each injection costs about Rs 20,000 - having no regular job with a meager monthly income of Rs 3000, "I hope government shall have mercy on my child”, Tarwinder said. It is pertinent to mention here that Deputy Commissioner’s office has cleared the case in March 2010, mentioning the economic status of the family after Chief Ministers Secretariat had asked the district administration to verify the case history.
Family says that the doctors have told them that if the boy misses one injection, it will have affect on his future survival. “So far we are managing it, even to some extent begging so that my son can take few more breaths, if the assistance is not granted, we will have to helplessly watch our son to die a slow death”, Tarwinder says.
