Governor, First Lady appreciates JKP for taking welfare measures for Jawans, their families | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 2 - Mrs. Usha Vohra, First Lady, inaugurated the day-long 19th Jammu and Kashmir Police-Public Mela in presence of Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, who was Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony, amidst enthusiasm and fanfare, at Bakshi Stadium here this morning. Dr. Indu Koul Khoda, Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, lady members of the Association and Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, Director General of Police, were prominent among those present on the occasion. The First Lady lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the inauguration of the Police-Public Mela. The students of the Police Public School, Srinagar presented a welcome song on the occasion. Later, the Governor and the First Lady, along with the DGP and the Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association, and other dignitaries went around the stalls put up in the Mela and evinced keen interest in the goods, particularly hand made ones, kept for sale from all the regions of the State. The Governor and the First Lady interacted with the stall holders and enquired about the various items put up for sale. At the stall put up by the Traffic Wing of the Police, the Governor discussed with the Director General of Police and the Traffic Police officers the need for bringing time-bound improvement in traffic management in the State, particularly focusing on implementing specific measures to reduce serious road accidents which are taking a heavy toll every month. The Governor also interacted with the children who participated in the painting competition organized on the occasion as part of the Mela and wished them a bright future ahead. The Governor and the Lady Governor were briefed by Mr. Khoda and Dr. Indu Koul Khoda about the aims and objects of the Mela and, besides, the activities of the organization aimed at securing the welfare of police families with special emphasis on widows and orphans. The Governor and Mrs. Vohra appreciated these initiatives of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association. The Governor and the Lady Governor were presented mementos by the Director General of Police and the Chairperson, Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association on this occasion.
