2 narco-smugglers held with 17 kg charas at Jakheni | 104 kg seized in Udhampur in 1 yr | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 02: Two narco-smugglers of Mumbai were late Saturday night apprehended by police at Jakheni in Udhampur while they were trying to smuggle charas in a Qualis jeep. SSP, Udhampur, Shakeel Ahmad Beig said the charas was being smuggled from Kashmir to Mumbai to sell it in the international market. He said a Udhampur police station party headed by SHO, Inspector Gian Chand Sharma intercepted a Qualis (MH04BY/8939) near Sansar Palace at Jakheni late last night. The search of the Qualis led cops to the recovery of 17 kilograms of charas, the SSP informed. The charas and the vehicle were then seized and two narco-smugglers arrested. The accused included Syed Mohammad Sadiq, son of Syed Mohammad Hamid of Powi Nittie, Mumbai, and Haroon Sheikh, son of Raju Sheikh of Gaon Doli in Bagpath, Uttar Pradesh. They were booked under NDPS Act. Their third accomplice, however, managed to escape under the cover of darkness. He was identified as Mohammad Raza of room No 94, Pairu Bagh, Nittie, Mumbai. A hunt was on to nab him. The SSP said the charas, which was tightly packed in polythene bags, was concealed in a specially designed container close to the patrol tank of Qualis. He said Udhampur police had seized 104.608 kg charas in the last one year.
