Catholic Diocese celebrates silver jubilee | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu:2nd Oct 2011: The Catholic Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar celebrated its Silver Jubilee on the 2nd October,2011 in St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School, Karanbagh, with its theme ‘Remembering Gratefully and Celebrating Joyfully’. The programme commenced with the thanksgiving Eucharistic Celebration presided over by His Grace, Most. Rev. Salvatore Pennacchio, the Vatican Ambassador to India. In his homily he emphasized and appreciated for expressing the profound gratitude to God for all his benevolence and love for the past 25 years. He also appreciated the committed missionary spirit of the Bishop, the Priests and Religious of the diocese. He emphasized the role of the Laity to continue to spread God’s message and the faith they have received which will help to flourish peace all over the state. He ended with wishing a blessed future ahead.
The Eucharistic Celebration was followed by the Felicitation Programme. During the function His Grace, Most. Rev. Salvatore Pennacchio was the Chief Guest. Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Celestine OFM Cap, the Bishop of the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar accorded warm welcome to the Chief Guest Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, released the ‘Documentary on the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar’ and appreciated the wonderful work done by the Catholic Church in Jammu and Kashmir State. Sri. Raman Ballah, Hon’ble Minister for Revenue and Rehabilitation, released the ‘New Diocesan Directory’. He in his address commented the dedication and selfless service of the missionaries in Jammu and Kashmir. His Grace. Most Rev. Salvatore Pennacchio, Vatican’s Ambassador to India, released the ‘Catechism Books’. He in his address conveyed the best wishes of the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Function was coloured by the different cultural programs put up by the students of Presentation Convent School, Gandhinagar, St. Antony’s Covent school, Vijaypur, Holy Trinity Convent School, Dansal, and Catholic Social Service Society, Jammu. Later, the students of Nirmala Convent High School, Dhanger, Kaleeth, St. Peter’s Senior Higher Secondary School, Karanbagh, St. Paul’s Convent High School, Gangyal, Fatima Convent High School, Bishna and St. Francis Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor, depicted “Tum Chattan Ho” a display on the History of Christ’s Mission in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
The programme was concluded by the Punjabi cultural folk dance (Bhangara) by the students of St. Peter’s School, B. C Road, Jammu. |
